Welcome to the home of Steve Stewart and the 17 Racing Team. 10/18/09 The 2009 campaign has come to a close for Steve and the 17 racing team. The season was full of 1st's for Steve. Steve piloted the 17 to his first ever feature win at West Liberty, his first 3 race winning streak of his career and he qualified for a feature at the IMCA Supernationals in his first ever trip to the track. The 17 team managed to rack up 6 wins over the course of the season at 3 different tracks. Thanks to everyone for all of your support this past season. Also, special thanks to our sponsors for their support, we couldn't do it without you. Plans for 2010 will be put on the website some time this winter.
7/27/09 Finally!!! After 8 years, Steve did it, he won a feature at West Liberty. Every winter Steve shares his goals for the upcoming season with me and every year it is the same, just one win at West Liberty. Time for Steve to come up with a new goal, that one can be crossed off the list. Eight years ago, a group of then teenagers (and Stormer) convinced Steve's dad that they were ready for the big time, reluctantly Tony granted us our wish. The first year...or 7 proved to be somewhat frustrating, but Steve never gave up. A few weeks into the first year at West Liberty, Steve ended up in a pretty bad wreck on the front stretch, but everyone met at the shop the next day and we cut the back off the car and he was back for the next week. It was 2005 that he almost had his first one, I stood on the front stretch to watch Steve run away from everyone on a rough, heavy track. But with about 5 laps left, the right axle twisted and ended his night. There were years where we crowned Steve Mr. Heat Race because we are pretty sure he won every single one, but he couldn't get that elusive feature win. Steve has won track championships and features at other tracks, but I'm sure that this one means a lot more to him. Back in 2001, that first night we showed up at West Liberty I remember Steve looking at me and telling me the names of the fellow modified drivers. He told me that when he was little and going to watch his dad, he used to collect their autographs, now he was going to be out there with them. He was never worried about it, he was just as confident back then as he is now. A lot has changed over these 8 years, the original crew isn't around as much, but they are always cheering for him. Congrats to Tony, Kaye, Brownie, Grandpa Dubs and Alyssa on the win as well, you guys stuck with him and got to witness history. Steve-O, we are all proud of you, sorry that we couldn't be there to witness it. I guess that just means you'll have to do it again for us. You did it...finally.
7/6/09 Since the last update, alot has changed. The 3 race win streak has abruptly ended, it has rained alot and...oh yeah, STEVE AND ALYSSA GOT MARRIED!!! On behalf of everyone involved in 17 Racing, I would like to congratulate Steve and Alyssa on their recent marriage. Now back to the racing action, following win #3 in a row, Steve-O headed to Osky to extend the streak. He had a fast car and during the feature was marching towards the front when he found the turn one wall and decided to lean on it into turn 2. His misfortune on this one night in Osky continued to bite him over the next few weeks as some lingering issues caused problems over the next few nights. Currently, most area racers are in a heated battle with mother nature as they try to get some racing action in. This past weekend the 17 was at both CJ Speedway and Eldon Raceway, only to have the nights cut short by rain. I would also like to congratulate the 23B of Adam Bell on his recent strong finishes. Adam made his first visit to Osky last week and turned in quite a performance by winning the heat and coming home 5th in the heat race. Adam and crew (that's you Grandpa Gail) are headed in the right direction with their Stewart Chassis. |
